Factor in that the 1700 has double the cores/threads of the i7 and that the AM4 platform is brand new whereas LGA1151 is near retirement then Ryzen is the better option imo. The 7700k will only show its stronger performance at 1080p 144Hz so if you play at higher resolutions or <120 Hz monitor then you won't see a difference in todays games. Where you might see a difference of the opposite variety (1700 beating out the 7700k) is in tomorrows games, we are finally getting out of the quad core stagnation that Intel forced the mainstream consumer into by not developing mainstream 6-8 core processors and making the ones they do make extortionately priced. This means developers will start to optimise for multi core CPUs better now they are more commonplace. Also any productivity/workstation task or streaming the 1700 would win clearly.
